Cadoc.nl is een website die zich sinds 2006 bezighoudt met boeken over fotografie, kunst en vormgeving. De missie van cadoc.nl is het overbrengen van het enthousiasme en het plezier dat ik zelf beleef aan deze boeken, op de bezoekers van de website. Dat doe ik door de bezoekers dagelijks op de hoogte te houden van nieuwe uitgaven en door het bespreken van boeken waar ik zelf enthousiast over ben.
De naamgever van Cadoc is de heilige Cadoc uit de twaalfde eeuw. Volgens de overlevering vond Cadoc toen hij tijdens de maaltijd de opgediende vis opensneed, zijn verloren gewaande exemplaar van Vergilius in de vissenbuik terug. Een boekwonder dat Cadoc tot een mogelijke patroonheilige van alle boekenvrienden maakt. In ieder geval tot naamgever van deze website.

In Giacometti's Studio door Michael Peppiatt
In dit boek maakt lezer kennis met de beeldhouwer Alberto Giacometti en zijn studio in Parijs vanaf het moment dat hij daar met hele boedel in een kruiwagen aankwam in 1927 tot en met zijn overlijden in 1966. De auteur laat zien hoe Giacometti aanvankelijk werd beïnvloed door het surrealisme maar later zelf zijn stempel drukte op het artistieke milieu van de Franse hoofdstad. Zijn studio was niet alleen de plek waar veel indrukwekkende beelden ontstonden maar werd een kunstwerk op zich.

Blinky Palermo. Retrospective, 1964-77 door Benjamin H.D. Buchloh, Lynne Cooke, Suzanne Hudson, Susanne Kuper, James Lawrence
The first retrospective in the U.S. to feature German artist Blinky Palermo (1943-1977) includes more than 60 works, most of which have never before been shown in North America. This beautifully illustrated volume spans the breadth of Palermo's brief but significant career and explores each phase, beginning with objects and paintings created shortly after he graduated from Joseph Beuys' class at the Dusseldorf Art Academy in the early 1960s and culminating with paintings he produced during his last years in both Germany and New York City. Palermo's oeuvre is customarily divided into four principal groupings: the Objects, the Cloth Pictures (Stoffbilder), the in situ Wall Paintings and Drawings, and the late Metal Pictures, including the epic "To the People of New York City" (1976), now in the collection of Dia Art Foundation. Blinky Palermo also addresses the artist's works on paper, including watercolours, sketches, preparatory studies, and prints that he made throughout his career. Essays by distinguished authors position the artist's work in relation to postwar American art and culture, which he greatly revered. Topics include the influence of the American milieu on the Metal Pictures; space and time in the Wall Drawings and Paintings; and the insights into Palermo's concerns and process afforded by his works on paper. Eva Hesse Spectres 1960 door E. Luanne McKinnon (samenstelling)
In 1960 Eva Hesse (1936-1970) created an unusual group of oil paintings that, when considered in contrast to her sculptural assemblages from 1965 to 1970, foretell her desire to embody emotional states in abstract form. Contrary to existing scholarship, which suggests that these works represent a form of self-deprecation, this book seeks to consider these 'spectre' paintings as manifestations of a private, haunted interiority in the context of the artist's burgeoning maturity. The paintings in the spectre campaign comprise two distinct categories. The first, a selection of small-scale oil on Masonite paintings, depicts two or three loosely rendered figures positioned in vacant pictorial spaces. These gaunt forms portray an apparent disconnection between one body and another; and yet, the pictorial drama of the works would be incomplete without the presence of each figure. The second group of paintings imbues a more perplexing psychological state, as characters alternately take on the forms of alien-like creatures or as close resemblances to the artist herself. Through an enlightening assessment of these under-appreciated works, readers will gain new insight into their pivotal role in Hesse's oeuvre.

Donald Judd. Specifics door David Raskin
This pioneering book, the first scholarly monograph devoted to Donald Judd, addresses the whole breadth of Judd's practices. Drawing on documents found in nearly twenty archives, David Raskin explains why some of Judd's works of art seem startlingly ephemeral while others remain insistently physical. In the process of answering this previously perplexing question, Raskin traces Judd's principles from his beginnings as an art critic through his fabulous installations and designs in Marfa, Texas. He discusses Judd's early important paintings and idiosyncratic red objects, as well as the three-dimensional works that are celebrated throughout the world. He also examines Judd's commitment to empirical values and his political activism, and concludes by considering the importance of Judd's example for recent art. Kurt Schwitters. Color and Collage door Isabel Schulz
Best known for his extraordinary abstract collages, German artist Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) is one of the most influential figures of the international avant-garde. Emphasizing the significance of colour and light in the artist's work and delving into the relationship between collage and painting, this handsome volume accompanies the first U.S. retrospective of the artist's oeuvre in twenty-five years. Affiliated with Dada and the Constructivist movement in the years following WWI, he coined the term merz to describe his ambition to 'make connections, preferably between everything in the world'. Schwitters' merz gave seemingly worthless objects of urban waste - train tickets, newspaper fragments, bits of wire - new life as compositional elements in his installations, assemblages, sculptures and collages. Hoping to unify life and art by incorporating everyday objects into his work, this pioneer of installation art came closest to his ideal with Merzbau, a room-size walk-in sculpture constructed entirely of found materials. Alongside images and analysis of a full-scale reconstruction of Merzbau, this book includes an illustrated chronology and 90 colour plates of Schwitters' assemblages, reliefs, sculptures and collages, with emphasis on merz works from the 1920s and 1940s. Mark Bradford. You're Nobody ('til Somebody Kills You) door Christopher Bedford
